Get Ready for Ice Fishing!

Everything is on Target for this time of year!

Water Temperature is around 32 degrees

Lake Level: 

The Lake is down about 6" from last week - and I as I said - if this pattern holds it will be at a perfect level for freezing!

The Bays are Freezing!!! 

From Wally's and north the bays are Freezing!! From the river all the way to Sport Island Pub there is Ice! Mayfield and Northville Lakes are frozen!

My prediction is that by the day after thanksgiving we MAY have 2-3 inches of ice!!! These areas MAY be fishable by next weekend! (We are not talking about the ENTIRE LAKE but these areas - just to be clear)

Tip of the week:

Make sure your blades are sharp on your Augers and check the line on your tip-ups!

Water Temperature is 36 degrees

The Lake Level has been going down slow and steady. A;; of the shallow bays are empty and people are riding ATV's across them and around the shoreline. All launches that I know of are high and dry. There may be some usable at the northern end of the lake, but I am not aware of any.

Andy Luey winterized hos boat last week which means 2013 boating season is officially over!

If the Lake continues this pattern it should freeze at a nice level this year but no one can predict THAT!

Northville Lake and Algonquin both had a nice skim coat of ice which means it won't be long now for the Sacandaga to freeze. 

Fishing: With the colder temperatures the browns have turned in and the Walleye have started to bite better.

Tip of the Week: Check your ice fishing gear and get your snowmobile ready!

Water Temperature: 51 Degrees

As I am writing this report this morning we are seeing some lake effect snow flurries!!!!

Lake Level: is holding! You can still access Mussels Harbor ( and Wally's - if you know what you are doing!) Also the deeper spots are still accessible up north ( Northville, Edinburg)

The only issue is that most places have pulled their docks! As of today, Lakeside Tavern, Captain Nauti's and Wally's still have docks in, but Sport Island and Lanzi's on the Lake have already pulled theirs. So if you are planning on traveling by boat, you may want to be sure there is a dock to go to!

Fishing: 
Walleye - still biting but small
Northerns - 25"-30" in the shallows
Trout - steady
Perch - have dropped off
Crappie - have also dropped off

Tip of the Week:
New State law says that if you are traveling by boat you MUST wear a life jacket from November 1st - May 1st. So be sure to have a life jacket on after November 1st!!!

Northville Waterfront Park

Water Temperature is 62 Degrees - this warmer weather is keeping it steady!

Water Level: is only down about 6 inches from last week! SO if you stay in the channels you can enjoy a great holiday weekend of boating! 

STAY in the channels! No stump ally, watch the rock piles by Sunset bay and Sin Clair point. If you aren't sure - don't try it!

The Fall foliage is STILL gorgeous! Maybe just past peak but still beautiful. They are still blasting the piers up by the Bridge, so that may be something interesting to check out on the north end of the lake.

Most of the State Campgrounds are closed, and the private seasonal ones will be closing after this weekend, so GET OUT THERE and enjoy a great weekend!The weather promises to be great!

Fishing:

The Walleye are scattered and not in their normal spots.

Trout are hitting great NE of the town of Day boat launch
Perch are the same as walleye
Bass are hitting good.

Tip of the Week: The fall foliage is gorgeous - But we miss the bikinis!

Lake Temperature is 62 Degrees




Lake Level is great for this time of year!Most of the ramps are still in and accessible  Docks are still in at Lakeside Tavern and Marina, Captain Nautis, and Wally's. 

The Channel buoys are still in - but NOT all the danger buoys.
There is plenty of sand bars and beach for parking.

The lake has been calm and the weather is BEAUTIFUL! SO be sure to get out there - the leaves are as gorgeous as they are going to get at the north end of the lake - and you want to get a look at them before we get wind or a storm.

This may be the LAST good weekend of the season - so get out there and enjoy the calm lake, good weather and beautiful scenery!

Fishing: Reports say that the fishing has slowed down, but everyone is out bow hunting, so we have NOT received as many reports as usual.

Tip of the Week: It is Dark out there when the sun goes down! There is no moon out right now and most of the lights that are normally on in summer ore off! So if yo are going out at night, know where you are going and don't count on moonlight or house lights for navigation!!!!

Water Temperature: 66 Degrees at the surface. 
This temperature is taken by Scout Island the surface temperature at the dam is usually 4-5 degrees warmer.

The Water Level is down about 8 inches from last week. This means there is still plenty of beach and you can still go most of the places you could last week.




BE AWARE THAT THEY ARE PULLING THE DANGER BUOYS FROM THE LAKE!!!!
If you do not know where they are supposed to be - don't risk it!

The channel markers are still there as of today.

FISHING:

With the cooler nights - the fish are biting! Perch, Walleye, Bass and Trout! The sizes aren't spectacular, but the numbers are!

LEAF REPORT:
The wetter areas of the lake are colorful. The rest of the lake of just starting to be yellow. The cooler nights are bringing the change on quickly and we expect the north end of the lake to be beautiful by next Friday or Saturday.

Tip of the Week:
It is easier to clean off the bottom of your boat right when you pull it out of the water - while it is still wet! Allowing it to dry off will add another 2 hours to the cleaning process!

The Water Temperature has dropped to 68 Degrees as the nights are getting colder

The Lake Level has dropped about a foot since our last report. There is still enough water to get around by boat but be sure to watch the channels and markers. There is allot of great beach! There is still NOT enough beach to ride the shoreline with 4 wheelers! It looks like a few were trying - Not Yet guys!

Make sure to get out there is you can! The water is calm,the weather is gorgeous, there is very little boating activity, and the leaves are starting to change in low lying areas - so the next couple of weeks are going to be beautiful!

Fishing:
Walleye are small ( 18" or so) but they are hitting great!
Trout are coming back with the colder weather

Tip of the Week:
Be sure to check your safety strap and hand winch when pulling your boat out of the water! If you don't your boat may NOT come out with the trailer!
